Peltola on Dobbs Anniversary

WASHINGTON – Today, on the second anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization Supreme Court decision, rolling back reproductive choice protections previously protected under Roe v. Wade, Representative Mary Sattler Peltola (AK-AL) released the following statement:

“I was born the same year Roe was decided. Two years ago, the rights I’ve had over my own body for 50 years – and the rights of women across our country – were suddenly called into question. Thankfully, Alaska law still protects abortion. In DC, I’m working to ensure every American has the right to make their own choices about their own bodies.”

Peltola is a cosponsor of major pieces of reproductive rights legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives, including:

  • H.R.12 - Women’s Health Protection Act of 2023: to prohibit governmental restrictions on the provision of, and access to, abortion services.
  • H.R.767 - Protecting Access to Medication Abortion Act of 2023: to require the FDA to ensure that patients may receive mifepristone through prescriptions issued via telehealth and filled by mail, especially important for Alaskans who live far from a healthcare center.
  • H.R.4121 - Right to Contraception Act: sets out statutory protections for an individual's right to access and a health care provider's right to provide contraception and related information.
  • H.R.7056 - Access to Family Building Act: provides a statutory right to access assisted reproductive technology (e.g., in vitro fertilization).
