Peltola Introduces bill to expand federal land allotments to Alaska Native Vietnam Veterans

WASHINGTON – Today, to honor the service of Alaska Native Vietnam era Veterans, Representative Mary Sattler Peltola (AK-AL) introduced H.R. 7785, the Alaska Native Vietnam Era Veterans Land Allotment Extension and Fulfillment Act, a bill to make additional federal public land available for selection under the program.

“Alaska veterans have given so much to our country; it's our duty to ensure they have what they need to succeed when they return home,” said Peltola. “My bill not only extends a vital program but also honors our veterans’ service by expanding access to lands they can call their own. It's a small gesture of gratitude for their immense sacrifices.”

Peltola’s Alaska Native Vietnam Era Veterans Land Allotment Extension and Fulfillment Act extends the period for land selection under the existing program from five to ten years and ensures prompt access to federal lands – expanding opportunities for eligible veterans to claim allotments while safeguarding environmental, cultural, and recreational values.
